Cord blood donation eligibility guidelines

Before you donate cord blood, there are a number of eligibility requirements which a potential donor must meet. Though there may be slight variations between public cord blood banks, the following guidelines are quite standard for public cord blood banks.

  • Donors must be 18 years of age or older (although some banks accept donations from donors 16 or older)
  • Donors cannot have any of the following medical conditions: AIDS, most types of cancer, diabetes, Hepatitis, Malaria, recipients of organ or tissue transplants, STDs
  • Donors must not have have received a tattoo within the past twelve months

If you are interested in donating cord blood, it's best to talk to your doctor about your options and medical conditions. And once again, this list is non-conclusive.
