For many moms, the local sushi bar is a source for entertainment and nourishment. Conventional wisdom says mom should stay clear of sushi and its cousin sashimi during her term. But we at YeahBaby aren't conventional, now are we?

Sushi is thought to be a forbidden food because it frequently contains raw fish. The truth is, most of what comprises sushi is not raw fish. A sushi roll is mostly comprised of vinegar-flavored rice and a seaweed wrap. Both are safely edible for any pregnant sushi aficionado. The interior of a sushi roll often contains raw fish, a taboo food for a pregnancy diet for it may cause a number of illnesses. Fortunately, there are many cooked options.

Pregnancy-safe sushi will include any of the following items

  • Cream cheese
  • Avocado
  • Crab stick
  • Fried and cooked fish
  • Raw or Tempura vegetables like carrot, asparagus and cucumber

Dip your sushi in the low sodium soy sauce. Don't forget to add a bowl of miso soup or a seaweed salad to your meal.
