It's hard to eat healthy and resist the temptation of some foods - especially for 9 months! There are many ways dad can help his pregnant wife eat healthy.
Most eating occurs at home. The best way to eat healthy at home is by carefully selecting the foods brought into the home. Be selective when purchasing foods at the grocery store. Mom won't be tempted by drinking her favorite diet soft drink if the drink isn't in the fridge!
Dad can help avoid many illnesses caused by eating raw foods. Dads should ensure all meals are fully cooked before being served. Raw and undercooked foods can cause listeriosis, salmonellosis, and other illnesses.
Eating outside the home will also bring challenges. Many meals contain raw sprouts, caffeine, radishes and certain fishes - all foods mom should avoid. Dad should fight off his urge for a feast of sushi. Or if eating sushi, consider rolls containing combinations of avocados, broccoli, sliced cumbers, carrots and sour cream.
When snacking and eating around the house, consume foods compatible with mom's diet. If she yields to temptation, she won't be consuming bad foods.
When dad wants to eat the 'forbidden' pregnancy foods, wait until a time when mom isn't with. She may never know the difference. Make sure to clear your breath before returning to your pregnant wife!
