Being a father in today's society is much different than it was in the past. Years ago, being a father meant being a supporter financially more than anything. Fathers weren't thought of as being as affectionate or loving as mothers, who were traditionally more active in child rearing.
Luckily for children everywhere, things have changed. Today we know that fathers play a very important role in raising children. Fathers provide things for their children that mothers cannot (and vice versa.) However, becoming more involved in their children's lives can make some fathers feel awkward.
As a modern father, what can you do to become more active in your child's life? It's simple- practice. Spend time with your children without mom. Introduce your children to your interests. Take interest in your child as a person. Tell your children how important they are to you. In time, you'll develop a close relationship with your child that is different than that they share with their mother.
Most importantly, remember that good parents are made, not born. Don't think you have the skills to be a good parent? Think again!
